When I started the MG finance accelerator as a freshman in college, I knew very little about finance. ModernGuild gave me access to very valuable resources to prepare for my interviews. I can honestly say I learned a great deal from the mentors I was paired with at ModernGuild. The program provided me with a lot of guidance and direction during my prep for a consulting role, I participated in webinars and had a supporting group of other candidates to practice case studies with. The ModernGuild Accelerator was an excellent way to be introduced to the consulting industry. My career coach and company mentor were outstanding in helping to refine my soft and hard skills and gave me tremendous insight into my strengths and weaknesses. ModernGuild was very helpful during my recruiting season. The mentor walked me through the recruiting and interview process. After being accepted into the business school, I was unsure of whether to pursue a career path in finance or consulting. After being enrolled in the accelerator, my decision became clear. ModernGuild equipped me with the tools I needed to succeed in not only securing a position in consulting, but succeeding in consulting itself. “There seemed to be something a little bit different about MG - a way to stand out from all of the other hustle that you have to get through in order to get in front of the recruiters. The most helpful thing was the increased confidence in interviewing and knowing how to present myself and sell myself to recruiters and people in the industry. It was good to have that person on the other side of things helping me practice and learn how to position myself, which is something I never got in college. It was helpful to have structure during my program and have somebody that held me accountable and showed me skills that I didn’t think I needed when I was in my finance classes but that are actually really necessary in the business world.”

“I had a great experience during the Accelerator. One thing I really liked about the MG program is that I was doing it during my senior year when I also had my senior thesis and it was manageable. It was all online and I didn’t have to necessarily drive anywhere or go to different meetings. I really enjoyed the case prep and the 1-on-1 coach that who was really able to identify where I could improve. MG is a great investment if you’re willing to put in the time. If you really take the time to do the activities and meet with your coach and make sure you’re giving a deep dive analysis of the cases then you’ll really really benefit. “I didn’t have much familiarity with recruiting before going through ModernGuild. I applied because I thought it would help me freshen up some of my basics and ultimately be in a position to have an interview with Citi. It was a lot more informative than I even originally thought it would be. The most valuable part for me was the weekly meetings with my mentor where I went through my assignments and talked about my experience in recruiting. “I applied to MG because I didn’t feel like I had gotten what I needed out of other training programs and so I thought doing this would help prepare me for case interviews and cement my desire to go into consulting after school. The most valuable takeaway for me was developing my own self-awareness. It’s often understated, but being aware of yourself and how others perceive you and how you communicate your value and ultimately selling points to others and to your teammates is essential. “Before MG, I didn’t really know what I was looking for and didn’t know much about the consulting industry. MG really helped me figure out what I wanted to do. I decided to apply for MG because I thought it was a unique experience, especially with the 1-on-1 coach, that was something I couldn’t get anywhere else. “Before MG, I found it very difficult to make a real connection with the people that I met at the networking events because I didn’t really have any training or formalized way of knowing what it is that they were. MG is very different from other programs because it not only guarantees you an interview, but it also offers lots of preparation and training along the way to that interview. When I first started the program, I didn’t really have much knowledge or know what I was talking about, but coming out, I was able to really express why I was interested in doing banking and how to back it up with my knowledge - that’s something I take with me every time I explain why I’m pursuing a career in banking."

“For me, the most helpful thing was getting matched with a mentor who could help me with the little details, somebody who worked with me through my resume and my cover letters and to figure out the important things to highlight and to focus on. The details that I wouldn’t have paid attention to if a mentor hadn’t pointed them out to me. I think if you’re someone who’s interested in consulting, a program like MG really helps. One of the best things that they did for me was to put me in a network of other consultants, people who could tell me about the work they do and in turn, people I could tell about my life story, things they might not immediately see on my resume. Without that sort of introduction between me and the other consultants I think part of my story would not have been carried forward."
