This is totally up to you, but here are a few reasons why you should consider getting involved in the community sooner rather than later. First, many of our program graduates didn’t know very much when they started – we have designed our application to allow us to measure your future potential, and we have no minimum GPA or major requirements. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can begin refining your understanding of the industry and your potential place within it. You will have many opportunities to update your preferences as you grow. Keep in mind, our Accelerators often run a full year ahead of scheduled start dates, so by participating this spring, you will actually be positioning yourself for a Summer 2020 role.
TPI is ModernGuild's proprietary performance metric that allows us to standardize each student's interview readiness within their industry of choice. "T" measures your technical aptitude (are you able to complete basic technical exercises that will be expected of you during the interview process?), "P" measures your professionalism (do your elevator pitch, resume, and interview approach reflect a coherent narrative that positions you for success within your chosen industry?), and "I" measures your broad industry awareness (do you have a solid grasp of the industry and your possible place within it?). These scores are derived in crude form during your application process and then modified and refined once you've completed one of our training programs.
Yes! MG Accelerators only require a flexible commitment of about 5 hours/week and are conducted entirely online. If you're feeling confident that your existing internship is the right match for post-grad, then there may not be much value in participating in an Accelerator. However, if you're still considering alternatives or want to keep your options open, our Accelerator can serve as valuable way to expand your exposure to a new industry, company, or business unit during your free time without sacrificing your dedication to your full-time role. The upside is that upon completion, you might find yourself weighing two offers instead of one.
Historically, about 13% of completed applicants are selected for sponsorship through one of our training programs. This number fluctuates slightly for each industry and cycle, but we work to balance selectivity with accessibility. Our goal is to take on as many motivated students as we possibly can. In 2019, we expect this number to rise given the expanded range of sponsorship opportunities that will be available throughout the year.
We estimate that the application process (the entire Activation Checklist in your account page) will take about 50 minutes to complete. Please keep in mind you can do it all in one sitting, or you can choose to take a break and return to wherever you left off at a later time.
Video submissions are becoming increasingly common as a job application tool. It's important to us that we give all applicants a holistic review as opposed to relying purely on traditional GPA or written responses. The videos help us to evaluate our applicants in a more meaningful way, and gives students an opportunity to showcase how they think and who they are.
Our team of coaches comes from a wide array of professional and academic backgrounds. Once an Accelerator class is finalized, we review each participant's story and match them with the coach who is most likely to help them thrive over the course of the Accelerator.
We recognize that many underclassmen don't yet have any solid experience or grounding in our current industry offerings (consulting and finance). All we expect is that, if you apply, you have a genuine curiosity about these industries and are excited about the possibility of expanding your horizons. We strongly believe that all of our graduates emerge from the 4-week program feeling far more confident in their career directions.
As a courtesy to other applicants, however, we do ask that you do not apply if you are certain these industries aren't for you.
In the past, ModernGuild has offered a wider array of Accelerator programs. However, we have chosen to double-down on these two industries for now to ensure we're delivering the best possible experience for students and surpassing the expectations of our current company partners. In the future, we certainly hope to introduce more tracks.
What you learn depends largely on the particular Accelerator you apply for. In general, all of our programs place an emphasis on fortifying your professional skills (networking, pitching, interviewing, personal branding) as well as expanding your confidence and deepening your knowledge of your industry of choice.
The Priority Deadline for our Spring 2019 cycle is January 10, 2019 and the Final Deadline is February 7, 2019. We review applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, but each cycle has specific deadlines after which we cannot consider you for sponsorship.
Yes. Each Company Partner has its own requirements, which are always subject to change, but several of our partners have some opportunities for international students. We have successfully worked with dozens of international students in the past.
Unfortunately, given that our company partners have the final say in hiring decisions, we cannot guarantee a job offer upon completion of an Accelerator. However, our partner companies recruit heavily from our program participants and all graduates are guaranteed an interview. To date, we've been able to place 86% of ModernGuild graduates within 3 months of program completion.
All students who successfully complete an application are considered members. This grants you access to our Knowledge Center, which contains a repository of our recorded webinars, videos from around the web that inspire us, professional tips, and first access to all of our upcoming events and workshops.
Every other week, we host virtual info-sessions. We're also always available to answer any questions, or schedule a private time to speak, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Absolutely. During your application, you will be asked to rank all of our company partners by preference. If more than 1 company expresses interest in sponsoring you through the Accelerator, we will reference your ranking and, where applicable, give you the option of choosing. It's important to us that you're matched with a company that excites you.
There is no catch! For real. By partnering with leading companies within the industries we currently serve (consulting and finance), we're able to offer our training Accelerators at no cost whatsoever to the student. Believe it or not, it's very expensive (and time-intensive) for a company to recruit on college campuses, and as a result, any large company will only realistically target 10-20 schools. By reducing the average cost-per-hire and expanding reach, we're able to guarantee full scholarship for any student accepted into the program.
At no point, and under no circumstance, is there a charge to the student. We pride ourselves on remaining accessible to students of all backgrounds, so we will never compromise on this point.
We are always looking to diversify and expand our portfolio of company partners. From our perspective, the more companies who work with us, the more opportunity we have to help students. The application consists of 3 major steps: Common App, Resume, Industry App(s). The first captures your basic professional/academic/personal history as well as your general industry preferences. The second is straightforward – just upload your resume! And the third, depending on which industry you've indicated an interest in, captures your motivation and existing knowledge of that space. This is done through a combination of ranking questions, short answer responses and recorded videos. Keep in mind that the short answer and video sections are simply an opportunity for you to showcase your experiences and tell us why you are a good fit for ModernGuild, please don't be intimidated by them.

Nope, you are not obligated to accept an internship or job offer. However, given the demand for any given Accelerator, we do hope that you will only enroll if you have a sincere interest in working with the sponsoring company. In order to keep things fair, we also ask that all enrolled students abstain from accepting any other job offers until 1 month after the program's completion.
Eligibility for our programs depends on the talent needs of our Company Partners for each recruiting cycle. For 2019 Accelerators, we are looking for freshmen, sophomores and juniors, with a special emphasis on individuals of diverse backgrounds (e.g. women, underrepresented minorities, veterans, LGBTQ, first-generation). However, we ensure inclusiveness in everything we do and encourage any motivated candidate to apply.
Don't worry! Many students are unsure which track is best, especially if they haven't yet had any first-hand experience. We recommend attending as many of our upcoming workshops as you can (accessible through the "Learn" tab on your account page).
