There is no catch! For real. By partnering with leading companies within the industries we currently serve (consulting and finance), we're able to offer ModernGuild membership and access to our learning opportunities at no cost whatsoever to the student. Believe it or not, it's very expensive (and time-intensive) for a company to recruit on college campuses, and as a result, any large company will only realistically target 10-20 schools. By reducing the average cost-per-hire and expanding reach, we're able to give top employers access to students at hundreds of colleges. At no point, and under no circumstance, is there a charge to the student. We pride ourselves on remaining accessible to students of all backgrounds, so we will never compromise on this point.
Eligibility for our programs depends on the talent needs of our Company Partners for each recruiting cycle. Generally Company Partners are looking for first, second and third-year undergraduates, with a special emphasis on individuals of diverse backgrounds (e.g. women, underrepresented minorities, veterans, LGBTQ, first-generation). However, we ensure inclusiveness in everything we do and encourage any motivated candidate to join.
We welcome new members to ModernGuild around the year. Be mindful of any upcoming Virtual Career Fair dates, as those are associated with our opt-in drives. Our opt-ins are the only place you are able to express interest in specific opportunities, unless otherwise communicated from the MG Team.
Yes. Each Company Partner has its own requirements, which are always subject to change, but several of our partners have some opportunities for international students. We have successfully worked with dozens of international students in the past.
Video submissions are becoming increasingly common as part of the recruiting process. It's important to us that we give all candidates a holistic review as opposed to relying purely on traditional GPA or written responses. The videos help us to evaluate ModernGuild members in a more meaningful way, and gives students an opportunity to showcase how they think and who they are.
The MG Profile consists of 4 major steps: Basic Profile, Detailed Profile, Resume, and Industry Profile(s). The first captures your basic contact information, the second is your professional/academic/personal history as well as your general industry preferences. The third is straightforward – just upload your resume! And the fourth, depending on which industry you've indicated an interest in, captures your motivation and existing knowledge of that space. This is done through a combination of ranking questions, short answer responses and recorded videos. Keep in mind that the short answer and video sections are simply an opportunity for you to showcase your experiences and tell us why you are a good fit for ModernGuild, please don't be intimidated by them. While the fourth step is not required, we highly encourage MG members to complete the industry profile, as it will make it easier for MG to connect you with a Company Partner. An active MG member is a candidate who is currently an undergraduate student, has completed an industry profile, attends workshops and nominates themselves for an opportunity via opt-ins within a cycle.
Of our active ModernGuild members, about 51% receive invitations to interview with at least one of our company partners. Our goal is to take on as many motivated students as we possibly can. We expect this number to rise given the expanded range of opportunities that will be available throughout the year.
This is totally up to you, but here are a few reasons why you should consider getting involved in the community sooner rather than later. First, many ModernGuild alumni didn’t know very much when they started – we have designed our industry profile to allow us to measure your future potential, and we have no minimum GPA or major requirements to join. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can begin refining your understanding of the industry and your potential place within it. You will have many opportunities to update your preferences as you grow. Keep in mind, companies often recruit a full year ahead of scheduled start dates, so by participating this year, you will actually be positioning yourself for a role for the following year.
We estimate that the profile completion process (the entire Activation Checklist in your account page) will take about 50 minutes to complete. Please keep in mind you can do it all in one sitting, or you can choose to take a break and return to wherever you left off at a later time. Currently, we only require steps 1 through 3 for a student to be eligible to opt-in for opprtunities. However, MG can do a better job at presenting you as a highly qualified candidate, if you complete step 4.
In the past, ModernGuild has offered a wider array of industry programs. However, we have chosen to double-down on these two industries for now to ensure we're delivering the best possible experience for students and surpassing the expectations of our current company partners. In the future, we certainly hope to introduce more tracks.
What you learn depends largely on the particular industry you create a profile for. However, we offer regular programming including our Virtual Career Fairs, Finance and Consulting Bootcamps and events that place an emphasis on fortifying your professional skills (networking, pitching, interviewing, personal branding) as well as expanding your confidence and deepening your knowledge of your industry of choice.
We recognize that many underclassmen don't yet have any solid experience or grounding in our current industry offerings (consulting and finance). All we expect is that, if you complete an industry profile, you have a genuine curiosity about these industries and are excited about the possibility of expanding your horizons. We strongly believe that all of our graduates emerge from our training programs feeling far more confident in their career directions.
Don't worry! Many students are unsure which field is best for them, especially if they haven't had any first-hand experience. We recommend attending as many of our upcoming events as you can (accessible through the "Learn" tab on your account page). If you're still ambivalent, feel free to email us and we'll help you think through the options. You are also more than welcome to complete industry profiles for both consulting and finance, and attend events for either to help you decide which career you would prefer.
ModernGuild members have the opportunity to connect with mentors via our near monthly events, including Bootcamps, and Coffee chats. At these events, students can connect with mentors from a variety of finance and consulting companies. After receiving training and advice from mentors, students are then free to ask questions and learn how best to position themselves during interviews and internships to help them secure a Full Time offer."

TPI is ModernGuild's proprietary performance metric that allows us to standardize each student's interview readiness within their industry of choice. "T" measures your technical aptitude (are you able to complete basic technical exercises that will be expected of you during the interview process?), "P" measures your professionalism (do your elevator pitch, resume, and interview approach reflect a coherent narrative that positions you for success within your chosen industry?), and "I" measures your broad industry awareness (do you have a solid grasp of the industry and your possible place within it?). These scores are derived in crude form during your process completion process and then modified and refined once you've completed one of our training programs.
All students who successfully complete their MG profile are considered members. This grants you access to our Knowledge Center, which contains a repository of our recorded webinars, videos from around the web that inspire us, professional tips, and first access to all of our upcoming events and workshops.
Every other week, we host virtual info-sessions. We're also always available to answer any questions, or schedule a private time to speak, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Absolutely. While completing your profile, you will be asked to rank all of our company partners by preference. You will also have the opportunity to express interest in specific opportunities and companies in our candidate opt-ins. If more than 1 company expresses interest in you, we will reference your ranking and, where applicable, give you the option of choosing. It's important to us that you're matched with a company that excites you.
Unfortunately, given that our company partners have the final say in hiring decisions, we cannot guarantee a job offer. However, our partner companies recruit heavily from our program participants and all graduates are guaranteed an interview. To date, we've been able to place 86% of ModernGuild graduates within 3 months of program completion.
